Julia Flaherty is a multi-faceted marketing professional with 10+ years of experience. Flaherty is a skilled digital marketing strategist, social media manager, content marketer, project manager, campaigns manager, writer, editor, and proofreader with foundational graphic design, video production, and design skills. She currently serves as project management lead within the marketing division for Beyond Type 1, an innovative non-profit changing what it means to live with diabetes.
Flaherty has served in marketing roles in various industries, including wholesale fashion, niche beauty, entertainment, magazine publication, events, professional services (customer relationship management and marketing automation technology), and non-profits. Flaherty started her career on the east coast, working for a wholesale fashion company that took her across the United States for various trade shows and events. While employed at this company, she worked closely alongside the CEO to meet the company's client relationship management, trend forecasting, sales, and marketing goals.
Flaherty utilized the sales and marketing skills she gained through this experience to help rebrand Love's Baby Soft—a Dana Classic Fragrances staple—as Eau So Love's. Eau So Love's was designed for a new generation of women. At Dana Classic Fragrances, Flaherty worked closely alongside the company’s creative director and its talented team of perfume artists and graphic designers. Flaherty oversaw Dana's social media channels for its modern and legacy brand accounts, became a brand advocate, and implemented and managed a successful influencer marketing strategy.
In her next role at Wetpaint, an entertainment and lifestyle website, Flaherty honed in on her marketing analytics skills to serve as the company's digital marketing strategist, providing tactical consultation to a small team to enhance multilayered, multi-brand audience engagement strategies. Flaherty managed and created social content for 10 to 20 social accounts per day while executing this core focus.
Following this venture, Flaherty worked various event gigs when she returned to the Midwest to be closer to family. She spent months learning the ins and outs of magazine publication during this transitional life phase. Flaherty eventually found a digital marketing specialist role at Ledgeview Partners, now FORVIS, in early 2018 where she helped earn the company accolades, placing #8 among 35,000 Microsoft Partners in Digital Marketing Excellence. She created for, strategized on, and managed all marketing workstreams in this role. The Ledgeview Partners blog, which she managed closely alongside the company’s marketing director, frequently popped up on top 10 lists of CRM publications you should follow. While at Ledgeview, Flaherty earned an individual award, decided by her peers, commemorating the legacy of a talented, gracious, and much-loved marketer, Brooke Webb Smith.
An inherently hardworking Midwesterner and decidedly passionate creative, Flaherty has found herself in various agency-like environments throughout her career. These experiences helped her gleam a clear understanding of what makes a company run successfully while providing an excellent environment and culture for employees.
Flaherty is undoubtedly adaptable and persevering, having graciously navigated her career through economic ebbs and flows and big life events. While testing the waters of different industries throughout the years, she has contributed to various publications in her free time to keep her writing and editing skills fresh, sometimes dabbling in ghostwriting. She has earned credit under her name for articles on websites like Her Campus, Hello Giggles, Insulin Nation, LyfeBulb, The College Tourist, JDRF, Thought Catalog, and more. Having lived with type 1 diabetes (T1D) for nearly 20 years, Flaherty has made it her underlying mission to advocate for those with diabetes. She had the opportunity to speak on the insulin pricing crisis at a Change.org All Team Event in November 2019 in front of 200 people.
Flaherty’s passion for advocacy and affecting positive change led her to her current role as project management lead for the marketing team at Beyond Type 1. Flaherty is a lifelong learner who has molded herself into a forward-thinking entrepreneur and businesswoman committed to making influential, high-quality contributions to an organization’s success.
Julia Flaherty sat down with Thrivable to discuss "Rosie Becomes a Warrior" and why she'd recommend Thrivable to other people with diabetes.
